S YH 3452 S YH 3452 Original Poster 9/13/20 More options Get Link Report Abuse Remote Desktop security? 1 I notice that when I sit in my office and connect to my desktop computerfrom another computer via Chrome Remote Desktop, I can see everything I am doing on the connecting computer on the screen of the desktop computer. Because the remote session apparently requires an unlocked and fully awake computer, I can also access everything that’s on the desktop computer directly without having to log in or enter a PIN.
Say I am travelling and a housesitter is staying at my home. My concern is that anyone sitting at the desktop computer (a) can view everything I am doing remotely by just turning the screen on, and (b) has complete access to the desktop computer and all of its apps, files, and Google information like autofill passwords.
Am I correct, and is there no way to prevent this from happening? Can the remote computer be set to stay locked to anyone but the user who is connected remotely?
Another concern is that if I have the desktop computer set to sleep or lock after a period of time, will I be able to use it remotely? (a) nobody in the community knows enough about Remote Desktop to answer my questions, or
(b) the answer is that these problems are intrinsic limitations of Remote Desktop and can’t be resolved, so I should buy a commercial app for remote connections.

My initial question on this topic was posted over three weeks ago.My impression after three weeks is it’s safe to asssume the level of privacy I’m looking for is not available from Chrome Remote Desktop, or that nobody knows if it is or isn’t . If someone feels that’s an inaccurate conclusion, feel free to let me know and I’ll be glad to wait untill the disasters are over for a more detailed reply.
That said, searching this community I’ve noticed other threads on similar topics going back into 2019 that have had zero replies except from the original poster, asking again for someone to please reply. Free or not, this fits my definition of a forum that’s not very useful on the topic at hand.
I’ll look for a help desk at Google I can contact but that seems unlikely, so I’ll likely be giving up on Remote Desktop.
